Hip Hop Streetdance
This class uses different dance styles. In the Hip Hop part of this lesson, different old school Hip Hop dance styles are discussed.
In the beginner lessons, the basics of each style will be discussed. In the intermediate and advanced classes, the complexity of these styles is discussed in more detail. The old school Hip Hop dance styles you can expect are Popping, Locking, New Jack Swing, basics B-boying, and original Streetdance (this dance style is now known as Hip Hop). These lessons are known for teaching you the steps and the foundation.
In order to best practice any of these great dance styles and keep the arc of development rising, it is essential that a strong knowledge of the dance style is present. In this way, the dance style can be better understood and the appropriate feeling can be put into it better. Foundation means the following: the history of the complete dance style, timelines, the origin of the various techniques, founders, contemporary dancers who practice the style at a high level, important events, and so on.
Old school Hip Hop dance styles also include old school Hip Hop music. This lesson will use Hip Hop, R&B, and New Jack Swing from the 80s and 90s.
Streetdance
When it comes to Streetdance, we dance to contemporary Hip Hop and Pop music. Within these classes, the street dance is based on New York Style, in short: Newstyle.
Street dance used to be a dance style in which the movements were inspired by video clips of different artists. Nowadays it is often mixed with the Old School Hip Hop dance styles. Street dance is a dance style that is very dynamic, it moves with the times. Choreography is taught that is linked to the music. That is, the different rhythms, instruments, and lyrics in the song can be portrayed into an amazing routine.
The beginner Hip Hop Streetdance is the regular class. Fun and expression are central to these lessons. The emphasis is less on the knowledge part and more on the dance part. The use of music is diverse and open to modern surprises.
In the intermediate/advanced groups, the emphasis is on both. These are the match and battle teams. These dancers are trained on techniques and foundation. These classes will ensure a solid development in the different techniques and an extensive knowledge of all dance styles. The intermediate and advanced dancers also work on applying these techniques themselves in the form of freestyle. More information about freestyle can be found on the freestyle page.
